Dr. Sheri Lefty utilizes the Homeoblock™ appliance, thread lifting, botox and dermal fillers in her practice. The face ages as we lose volume in our midface due to loss of bone, fat, and collagen. This causes the face to drop, eye socket to enlarge, the facial lines get deeper and more defined.
Botox injections cause temporary muscle paralysis, this in turn prevents the lines in the skin from folding, creating a more youthful appearance, Botox must be maintained 3 to 4 times yearly.
Dermal fillers can fill in deep facial lines, and in some areas provide volume to decrease aging. Fillers must be maintained usually twice a year.
Thread lifts can lift sagging skin and cause localized collagen production and last typically longer than dermal fillers.
While botox, dermal fillers, and thread lifts provide a more instant anti-aging appearance, as mentioned, they require continued upkeep to maintain the achieved look and can have down time due to bruising and swelling that can occur.
The Homeoblock™ appliance generates bone growth and repositioning, is worn at night and has no downtime associated with it. Dr. Lefty trained with Dr. Ted Belfor, the inventor of the Homeoblock™ appliance and the anti-aging protocol to treat facial aging and improve breathing. It works by signaling the body to express genes that have not been expressed before. This is known as the science of Epigenetics, which has been understood for the past 15 years.
Treatment with the Homeoblock™ has shown to increase the midface volume which results in a younger looking face. Treatment typically takes 24 months, involves no down time and is based on your own genetic potential for bone growth. It is a great option if you have dental crowding as it remodels the upper jaw, making it wider to allow more space for your teeth.
The Homeoblock™ appliance works while you rest. As you bite on the block, cyclical intermittent light force is sent to the periodontal ligament around the tooth roots and to the bone. This provides the necessary stimulation to the underlying bone to generate new bone growth and initiate bone positional changes. Additionally, it exercises the muscles under your tongue responsible for keeping the airway open.
Over time, this appliance has been shown to:
- Remodel the upper jaw by making it wider
- Changes the size and shape of the maxilla and mandible
- Improves facial symmetry
- Creates space to straighten the teeth
- Promotes proper swallowing and tongue posture
- Tones pharyngeal airway and reduces inflammation
- Improves breathing
Did You Know?
Our facial bones actually grow around soft tissue. For example, our cranium grows around the brain, the orbital bones grow around the eyeball, and our facial bones grow around the pharynx, or breathing tube.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What kind of downtime is associated with thread-lifts?
Thread-lift patients can have significant bruising, typically non-painful, due to the nature of the anatomy, the types of vitamins and supplements the individual is taking. We have a protocol for reducing bruising as well as suggestions for limiting alcohol and certain supplements before and after your procedure, however, you do not want to have any important functions within 2-3 weeks of having the procedure.
Am I a candidate for a facial anti-aging appliance?
You may be a candidate for a facial anti-aging appliance if you are experiencing symptoms of cranial dystrophy (a lack of development). Possible symptoms can include:
- Sleep apnea
- TMD
- Headache
- Facial asymmetry
- Bruxism (teeth grinding and clenching)
- Upper airway resistance
- Sleep onset insomnia
- Premature aging
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Lack of Alpha/Delta sleep
If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, treatment with a Homeoblock™ may help to reduce or eliminate these symptoms while also improving the overall appearance of your facial structures. To find out what anti-aging appliance therapy can do for you, schedule a consultation with Dr. Lefty.
What can I expect when undergoing facial anti-aging appliance treatment with Dr. Sheri Lefty?
To begin your treatment, Dr. Lefty will take detailed records, photographs, and a cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan. This scan produces a 3-D image compiled of thousands of 2-D images and will be used to determine your exact treatment plan.
Most patients can expect to wear the Homeoblock™ appliance on their upper jaw for 24 months for development of the face and airway. During this time, you might have a specific daytime protocol to follow and also wear the POD, Preventive Oral Device. All results are individual and are based on your genetic potential.
